Toby, the Attire Umpire
Listen Now:
Enforcing the company dress code is one of those tasks that nobody likes to do, yet the responsibility falls, more often than not, on the HR department. In this episode, I discuss the long and short of appropriate business attire policy with Patti Sharkey, Executive Director of Human Resources with Greenlaw Partners, LLC, a real estate development and investment management firm in Newport Beach, California. You have to hear our discussion about developing a fair open-toe shoe policy.
For you Southern California listeners, Patti will be exhibiting her attire-related paintings at the Laguna Beach Art Walk on August 6th. For more information, visit SharkeyArt.com.

What a great way to think about the value that dress codes bring to your business environment and I never new that open-toed shoes could be so contriversial!

Having worked with Patty several years ago at another company where she was the HR director, I can say with unequivocal certainty that she is as classy a lady as she sounds!
Her art speaks for itself; I do believe I am the “Margret” in the “One Halloween” piece
or at least I hope I am.
And just for the record, it wasn’t my feet that had the fungus; but I might have been the one with the bunions…

Very interesting and in-depth points made on dress code Patty. I never looked at it as such a huge deal before. As for your interview you are very well spoken and erudite with no wasted words in sight.

My office dress is casual and it is surprising how far people can take it. By the way, my boss wants to order a painting. It’s perfect for our office.
